IOI Client Testimonial: Dr. Yang Lu

March 16, 2026
  1. Can you please tell me your name, title and company name? (Do we have your permission to use your name and your company name in the testimonial?)
Dr. Yang Lu, Director & Head of Measurement Engineering, Quiver Bioscience. Yes—you have my permission to use my name and company name in the testimonial.
  2. What do you do at Quiver Bioscience?
I lead measurement engineering and instrument development at Quiver Bioscience, with a focus on building and validating high-throughput, all-optical electrophysiology platforms for CNS drug discovery.
  3. How did you first hear about IOI and our LED Illuminators, and how long have you been a client?
We learned about IOI through colleagues in the bio-optics community and online search. We became a client in 2023.
  4. Please tell me the product(s) you have purchased from IOI and their application(s).
We purchased the LumiPro LED illuminator. It’s integrated into our NIH-funded instrument for optogenetic stimulation and multicolor fluorescence excitation in high-throughput plate-based assays.
  5. Would you tell me why you chose IOI and our products over others on the market?
chose IOI for the combination of performance, stability, and engineering support—plus their unique multi-die, high-power LED sets that provide the output we need with excellent field uniformity, which is essential for our application.
  6. How would you describe IOI’s expertise in High Power Solid-State Illuminators?
Deep and very applied. IOI understands both the photonics and the realities of instrument integration—thermal management, coupling efficiency, modulation control, and long-term stability.
  7. How would you rate IOI’s customer service and responsiveness?
Excellent. IOI has been fast, clear, and proactive—from quoting and configuration to integration questions and follow-up.
  8. Please describe the performance and best attribute(s) of your IOI illuminator(s)?
High optical output with stable, repeatable intensity over long acquisitions, excellent field uniformity, and efficient coupling into our optics. It’s compact and mechanically solid, which simplifies integration.
  9. How have IOI’s products enabled the success of your instrument/application?
The LumiPro enables us to run demanding optogenetic protocols and multiparameter fluorescence readouts reliably and at scale, reducing integration time and improving assay consistency across plates and experiments.
  10. What has been the most positive aspect of working with IOI?
A true engineering partnership—quick, knowledgeable support with regular check-ins and proactive updates that keep the project on track and ensure customer success. IOI is willing to fine-tune details and iterate with us until the system is dialed in.
  11. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations about how we can improve our products or services at IOI?
Minor wishes: a few more optical configuration options, greater flexibility in illumination field size to scale across different instrument form factors, and broader driver/interface compliance to support different control requirements. Otherwise, we’re very happy.
  12. Would you recommend IOI to others, and if so, what would you say?
Absolutely. For teams building or upgrading scientific instruments that need multi-die, high-power LED illumination—reliable, stable, and well supported—IOI is an excellent choice.
